On July 25th our first grandchild Leo was born.
We are all besotted with him and I draw him most days which is a complete joy.

Iona and Mull – Sept 24
The weather this summer has been a bit wet on the west coast but I managed to spend the hottest days drawing and painting on Iona. I even downed the paints and went in swimming at the north beach.
The light and colour were glorious on the islands and I think my drawing has taken on a new vibrancy. The bird life, as always on Mull, is full of surprises and at Kintra we saw crows attack a sea eagle right above us.
I love sketching out on the rocks at Kintra. It’s wonderfully quiet here to sit and observe the cormorants sitting on the rocks and the gulls flying overhead. It’s especially pleasing to draw the shape of Staffa which seems to sit like a large boat on top of the Sound of Mull in my drawings.
My favourite beach to work on on the Ross of Mull is Fidden and this year we had sun, rain and hailstones within an hour of arriving. The hail didn’t stop one wild swimmer who continued on while we packed up all our drawing materials and took shelter at the big red rock to dry out. Here’s a small selection of the island works which are all acrylic on paper studies.

Sept: Eugene Twist – Sea Captains:
It was a pleasure to work with Simon on the cover of his new Eugene Twist release – Sea Captains. A mesmerising song about the sea. Tune in on Spotify or give Eugene Twist (Instagram:@eugenetwist) a google search!
